Our History

Lucas, Tucker and Company was formed in 1938 by General Wilmer F. Lucas, CPA, and Mr. Alfred Tucker, CPA. It was the first Black Owned CPA Firm in New York. In 1929, General Lucas made history when he became the first person of Color to become a CPA in the State of New York and the fifth CPA

of color in the United States. The ‘experience requirement’ presented a barrier to many an aspiring CPA of Color because established CPA Firms did not hire black people. They stated that clients would not feel comfortable working with a black person. Mr. Lucas met that requirement through employment with a Jewish Firm. In the decades following its establishment, Lucas, Tucker and Company provided the required experience for more than 30 percent of ALL BLACK CPAs who obtained their licenses in the State of New York. Today, we continue to provide Accounting, Assurance, Taxation, and related services, and we continue to be trailblazers.
